Milestone: 42,500 Words

Somebody cut me a slice of pie.

No, really. I’m actually kind of craving lemon meringue right now.

42,500 words! I’m officially at the halfway point and it feels amazing.

I’ve officially planned out the remaining scenes (most of them), so the rest of this journey should go fairly smoothly. Of course, I’ve cursed myself now that I’ve said that, but I’m still pretty hopeful.

Here’s a little snippet:

Milestone: 30,000 Words

Pain. Lots of pain.

Wat, A Knight’s Tale

Well, I’ve hit that 30k milestone, and if I’m being honest, it’s the most bittersweet feeling I’ve ever felt. The joy and relief of hitting another milestone, all mixed with despair that about ten thousand of those words don’t count.

Why don’t they count, you ask?

Milestone: 20,000 Words

Hot damn.

Twenty thousand words already, and it’s only been a week and three days. You know what that means? I’m tired.

But, I’m making good progress. I’ve written about seven different scenes. Some of them are consecutive, some of them aren’t. All in all, I’ve written the first couple of chapters and a few different sections near the middle of the story. Eventually, I’ll work on the end, but not for a while.

I can’t share everything with you, but here’s a short snippet:

Writing Is Hard: Writer’s Block

Writer’s block makes it very easy to want to give up. You’re twenty thousand words deep and all of a sudden you’re dreading writing the rest of the scene you’re on. It comes on suddenly, with no warning, taking no prisoners.

Fatigue. Weariness. Mental exhaustion. Synonyms (ha).

I’m Writing A Book!

If you’ve already been following this blog, then this isn’t anything new. There’s been a word counter in the side bar for a week now. It also says it on the front page of this website. That being said, I’m super excited to share with you that I’m writing a book!

This isn’t the first time I’ve attempted writing a book. My best attempt ended up around sixty thousand words. I wrote all that when I was thirteen, so you can imagine how horrible it was (the typos, the typos).

Fortune Favors the Cruel (Dark Maji Book 1)

By Lucy Smoke and Kel Carpenter

Loose-Leaf Review:

Fortune Favors the Cruel is a dark fantasy tale about Quinn Darkova, a dark maji whose powers have yet to fully awaken, and Lazarus Fierté, a nobleman harbouring more than a few secrets of his own. The story follows their journey across the continent as Lazarus trains Quinn in controlling her magic. But, of course, nothing can ever go smoothly. Or can it? External conflict seems to be almost completely absent in this novel, and internal conflicts are weak and solved easily. Despite this, the story progresses at a good pace, and it held my interest enough to want to read the next book when it comes out.

In the end, I don’t feel a strong connection to the characters, I don’t know who the villain is, I’ve forgotten most names of the places the cast travelled to, and the editing could have been a lot better. But the story has been set up in a way that I’m curious about what comes next, despite the fact that not much really happened in this novel. If you’re a fan of dark fantasy and you don’t mind things moving at a somewhat slow pace, then give this novel a chance. It’s free if you have Kindle Unlimited.
